Setbacks & Mini Projects

This project is much more difficult than I had originally expected it to be. However, I intend to continue planning fundraisers with my partner. With the help of some fast food restaurants we want to raise money for our final donation to the organization called CELF. From there all of the money will go to students in Kenya who do not have access to clean, parasite free water. We did face a setback this previous weekend when we realized we needed to plan in depth exactly which fast food restaurants we should ask to help with our project. If we can get approvals from places such as Chik Fil A and McDonalds, then I believe we will be able to take a big step towards our goal of raising near $500. We recently contacted Chik Fil A so we'll go in to discuss our project and how they can be a part of it. Hopefully, they'll be able to donate a certain amount of profits towards our project and if not we have several other places that we can visit. But of course the restaurants is just one idea we have. Another plan we have is to buy chocolate from, World's Finest Chocolate, made specifically for fundraisers and try to sell as many as possible. Not only at West Ranch, but I want to also get my little sister and her friends to sell them at Rancho Pico Junior High. Another place to sell the chocolate is Waller's GymJam where she trains for gymnastics and where there are many parents who would be willing to support our project. . Life Straws are gaining more and media attention as I've noticed because it's such a great use of technology. It's funny actually, I went on to Youtube to watch a video and a commercial for Life Straws came on. It's great that through that ad people can learn about this amazing invention. Overall my partner and I are still excited to see what we can do with this project. We'll continue to think of more mini projects to aid this project because it'll have an impact in the end even if it's small.

  1. Selling World's Finest Chocolate is a great idea! I know lots of people are willing to cough up a dollar for a chocolate bar, so it would be a pretty easy way to reach $500 quickly. You might want to check with the schools first to make sure you can sell them, though: the sale of chocolate on school grounds might be prohibited if it doesn't fit the nutritional guidelines. Do you plan on having any fundraisers that do not involve food?

  2. I love how your idea is to help others. We do take for granted all our fresh water, while others have to drink brown water filled with dirt and deadly bacteria. I hope the fast food chains agree to help you with your project! The chocolate is also another brilliant idea, I would buy so many! If you get the $500 before the project is over, will you keep going and try to raise more?
